Scam Checker is a service provided by Scam Checker LLC, a California limited liability company (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), located at 516 N Sepulveda Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using Scam Checker, you agree to the practices described here.
1. What Scam Checker Does with Your Data
The short version:
- You send us a screenshot. We analyze it and reply with a verdict.
- The screenshot is stored securely for up to 7 days, then permanently deleted.
- A structured log of the submission (text extracted, verdict, signals detected) is retained to improve accuracy. The log does not contain the screenshot image.
- We do not sell your data. We do not share your SMS opt-in information with third parties for marketing purposes.
2. Information We Collect
When you sign up:
- First name
- US phone number
- Email address
- Date, time, and method of consent to receive SMS messages
- Payment method (processed and stored by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)
When you use the service:
- Screenshots and images you submit via SMS, stored for up to 7 days then permanently deleted
- Structured submission log per submission: text extracted from the image, verdict returned, signals identified, scam type detected, and timestamp. This log does not contain the screenshot.
- Message activity timestamps and submission count
When you purchase a gift subscription:
- Recipient’s first name and US phone number
- Your first and last name (used in the invitation message to the recipient for trust)
- Recipient’s consent status and response (YES, NO, or STOP)
Automatically collected:
- Analytics events via PostHog, including message activity and feature usage. Events are tied to an internal user ID, not your name or phone number.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Analyze screenshots you submit and deliver verdicts
- Manage your account and subscription
- Process payments through Stripe
- Send SMS messages related to the service (verdicts, account notifications, billing)
- Improve the accuracy of our scam detection over time
- Detect and prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for advertising. We do not build behavioral profiles to sell to third parties.
4. SMS Messaging
Opt-in: You consent to receive SMS messages from Scam Checker by submitting the signup form, where the SMS terms are disclosed, and replying YES to our confirmation message. We record your consent, including the date, time, and the phone number you provided.
What we send:Service messages only — scam verdicts, subscription confirmations, billing notices, STOP/HELP responses. We do not send marketing SMS messages.
Opt-out: Reply STOP at any time. We will send a confirmation and stop all further messages. Replying STOP from a paid subscription cancels the subscription immediately.
Help: Reply HELP or email support@getscamchecker.com.
Message and data rates may apply. Contact your carrier for details.
Important: We do not share your SMS opt-in data, phone number, or consent information with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
5. Data Retention
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Screenshots and images you submit | Up to 7 days, then permanently deleted |
| Structured submission log (text, verdict, signals — no image) | Retained while your account is active |
| Account information (name, phone, email) | Retained while your account is active |
| SMS consent records | Retained for legal compliance |
| Gift recipient consent records | Retained for legal compliance |
| Payment records | Handled by Stripe; see Stripe’s privacy policy |
Screenshot deletion runs automatically. The structured log does not include the image — only the extracted text content, verdict, and signals.
When you close your account or request deletion, we delete your personal information within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements (such as billing records required for tax purposes).
6. Information We Share
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only with the third-party providers necessary to operate the service:
| Provider | Purpose | What is shared |
|---|---|---|

| Twilio | SMS and MMS delivery | Phone numbers, message content |
| Stripe | Payment processing | Payment information, subscription status |
| Supabase | Data storage | Account data, submission logs |
| Vercel | Website hosting | Standard web request logs |
| PostHog | Analytics | Usage events, tied to internal user ID |
Screenshots sent to Anthropic:When you submit a screenshot, it is transmitted to Anthropic’s Claude API for analysis. Anthropic processes the image to generate a scam verdict. The image is not stored by us beyond 7 days and is not shared with any other third party. Per Anthropic’s commercial API terms (verified June 2026): Anthropic does not use API inputs or outputs to train its AI models. Your screenshots are not used for model training. Anthropic’s handling of API data is additionally governed by their Data Processing Addendum.
We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
We do not share your phone number, email, name, or submission data with advertisers or third parties for their marketing use.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information:
- Screenshots stored in encrypted cloud storage (Supabase) with access controls
- Payment data handled by Stripe under their PCI-DSS compliance program
- Screenshot images are automatically deleted after 7 days
- Internal access to submissions is limited to the founder for QA review during the 7-day window, via time-limited signed URLs. Images are never emailed or stored in third-party messaging platforms.
- Secrets and API keys are never stored in source code
No system is completely secure. If we become aware of a security breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable California law.
